April 2008

Yeah I know I do a lot of Japanese ska bands. But frankly the Japanese scene is as strong as the US scene in it’s heyday in terms of talent and musicality, and I’ll fight anyone who says different. This week, we’ve got band with the understated name ARTS. Frankly I wish I could pull off a plum suit like these guys can.

Yes, it’s true ladies and gentleman. And I apologize… it’s a been a while.

Anyways, here is the big news…

RUDE RADIO IS SPONSORING THE STEPHEN MARLEY SHOW!!

Tuesday, June 10

FIRST AVENUE Main Room door 8:00 PM / 18+
Radio K and Tuff Gong/Ghetto Youths International Present: STEPHEN MARLEY
with early vibes by GULLY BANK SOUNDStay tuned to Rude Radio on Radio K for your chance to win tickets to the show!!!

Yeah, so I didn’t post anything last week. My bad. Work sucked, you know the story.

In penance, this week we have 2 videos. The first, as suggested by Mike, is from the underrated Third Wave band Save Ferris. Unfortunately their first and only hit was a cover, so they got lumped into “crappy-ska-band X” crowd. The second, in honor of Grounation Day today, is Count Ossie performing and then meeting Emperor Haile Sellasie.

The Playlist for 4/13/07 has been posted. Click on the Comments link above to view.

Dave Hillyard, current Slacker (as well as probably a dozen other side projects) and ex-Hepcat member, gave a great little interview at the fantastic ska blog Music Is My Occupation.

Check it out here.

Yeah I know this is late. I seem to have the ability to cram every important thing in my life on Mondays, so this got overlooked. So it’s appropriate that this week, we are going with one of the only official videos The Slackers ever did. Coming from The Question, here’s Have The Time.
