Hot on the news of a probably Specials reunion later this year, here is a recording of ex-Specials Terry Hall and Lynval Golding along with British rude-girl-in-training Lily Allen at the Glastonberry Music Fest last year.
Dear Ms. Allen,
Since you are so intent on getting Two-Tone groups together (or at least on-stage), can you please see if Terry knows any of the Bodysnatcher’s phone numbers?
The BBC’s Radio 6 is reporting that Terry Hall, former lead singer of The Specials, has announced an intention to reunite the seminal Two-Tone group, doing shows sometime later this year. This is obviously fairly preliminary, of course, but unlike previous abortive efforts to reunite, this one seems to the most likely to succeed, since Hall and fellow Special (and Funboy Three bandmate) Lynval Golding performed together earlier this year.
You know, the girlfriend has been talking about going back the UK lately. Maybe this is a good time to renew the old passport.

Short one for you today. Two Tone fans don’t get enough love on the show, for various reasons, so here’s the music video for Madness’s classic Baggy Trousers. Enjoy!
We barely mentioned it during this week’s show, for various reasons, but Mikey Dread, one of the most recognizable radio DJ’s in Jamaican music, passed away on Saturday at the age of 54. There’s not much to say that wasn’t said in Joey Altruda’s obituary, posted here on the always quality Ska Blah Blah.
This week’s clip is a live recording of Mikey Dread doing Natural Roots at Rockers Roadshow. We’ll be sure to do an extended set next week of Mikey’s music, and a feature in 2 weeks.
This week, I’ve got another clip from the BBC documentary “The Story of Jamaican Music”. This time, Ernest Ranglin, Derrick Morgan, and Prince Buster explain the origins of ska, from the roots in American R&B and onward. Enjoy!
