For those of us that are stuck in the Arctic climes of the Twin Cities, but wish we were stuck in the near-Arctic climes of Boston, here is a clip from last night’s Hometown Throwdown show. It’s a camcorder job, but the sound quality is pretty good considering. Enjoy, and stay safe tonight!

I always forget a slash or two…..

In case you missed the show this week, or only tuned in after we were knocked off the air by a driver taking out a nearby powerline, we made two big annoucements relating to the future of the show.

The first is that starting on Januray 27th, we will be archiving our show and making it available as a podcast. We will provide links to the shows as soon as they become available, and I have assurances from Radio K management that this will go off without a hitch. If it doesn’t, then I will just tape the shows at home and post them myself.

This is a big deal for both Mike and I, since this allows people who can’t tune into the show a chance to listen whenever and wherever they want to.

The second and probably bigger announcement is that also starting January 27th, Rude Radio is moving its time slot to Sundays from noon until 2. This sets up a nice block starting at 10 with Radio K International to us and then onto Out Of Step at 2. While we will miss out Saturday mornings slot (a time the show has held for well over 10 years and I personally have manned for over 8 years) and we will certainly miss being a part of many people’s Saturday morning rituals(stay tuned for a possible, super secret Saturday show available online), if we have to move I think this is the best possible spot for us.

I have talked to several people that wanted to know who to contact to express opinions about the move. Programming@radiok.org is the best contact point for any comments or complaints you may have. I would normally say keep it civil, but I trust you all to know that already.

I didn’t get a chance to mention it on the show this week, but this Saturday was the 5 year anniversary of Clash frontman and all-around supertalent Joe Strummer. So this week, I figured I’d throw up a video of Joe and his band The Mescaleros doing (from what I’m told) was Joe’s favorite Clash song, White Man (At Hammersmith Palais). Enjoy!

The playlist for this week’s show was vaporized by a power outage at the Rarig Center. Sorry about that. It was a good show, though, I swear!!

Man, nothing but bad news lately….

The Jamaica Observer is reporting today that rocksteady pioneer Alton Ellis has been undergoing cancer treatment for a few weeks at a hospital in London.

“His kids and wife were keeping vigil at his bedside,” said the singer’s nephew, comedian Owen ‘Blacka’ Ellis, in an e-mail to this reporter. “It is looking more hopeful now.”

Keep the Ellis family in your thoughts, and maybe ask Santa if he can deliver some new lymph nodes to London.

Mike Park posted on his blog about Lynette’s life.

Lynette’s sister has a MySpace page, with a very nice slideshow that is growing as more friends and family submit pictures.

While I personally never had a chance to see Skanking Pickle live, they were a major part of my exposure to ska in the mid 90’s. If it were possible to wear out a CD, Sing Along With Skanking Pickle would probably close to a nub by now, although I have since sold it to cover bills in my less prosperous days. Maybe it’s time to pick them up again.

Nothing Nice to Say did a nice comic for the late guitarist for Skankin’ Pickle/ 78 RPMS.  Here is the link:
